One Shot Wonders: Space. Background Information for Players

In 2280 mankind devolved the Almost Faster than Light engine. Ships with the AFtL drive allowed the Human race to expand its domain into the wilds of space. Ships designed and built in this period of frontiersman exploration carry the designation ESS [Earth System Ship]; there are hundreds if not thousands of ships carrying the ESS designation still in use.

It is the year 2456 and over the past 176 years man has setup colonises on a handful of worlds. Earth started colonising planets in the nearby Jurian galaxy in 2287 and they now have 5 colonies.

MX128A7: Alpha Colony [Local Name: Maisha] Colonised in 2287 this was Earths first colony and thus became the most luxurious of our colonies. Alpha colony has had more money and talent poured into it than all the others, making Alpha colony a world that is full of labour saving technology and a lifestyle that is relaxed and easy [and only open to those rich enough to purchase a home there]

MX131C9: Beta Colony [Local Name: Mavuno] Colonised in 2314 Beta Colony’s aim was to provide a back to basics lifestyle for those searching to escape the technology filled life of Earth and Alpha Colony. This colony is all about self sufficiency and survival.

MX129D7: Gamma Colony [Local Name: Ua] Colonised in 2359 Gamma Colony is a low gravity world that is full of vegetation and animal life. Gamma Colony is probably is the most successful of the Colonies due to the abundance of harvestable animal and plant life for food, medical and luxury items that are exported to the members of the Alien Alliance.

MX130E3: Delta Colony [Local Name: Malazi] Colonised in 2436 this is Earths most recent colony, its only 20 years old and still finding its feet. Due to funding difficulties, Delta has been beset with problems in acquiring technology and manpower from Earth. Many see Delta as a chance to escape Earth and make a new life there.

MX128B3: Omega Colony [Local Name: Helios] Colonised in 2295, Helios quickly became a penal planet due to Earths prison overcrowding. It has the honour of being Earths second colony. It is a tough, arid environment and the prisoners are safely penned on the largest continent, with supplies and equipment dropped in with new arrivals.

In 2283 we finally met Aliens, while exploring the Jurian Galaxy; the ESS Lionshead encountered the Drakis exploration vessel Dar’Kan. Humanity learned that there were several other Alien races also expanding their own territories. The Drakis acted as Humanities intermediary in meeting and dealing with others Alien races, arranging for Earth to join the Alien Alliance [as a probationary race in 2308], this allowed Mankind access to true FtL technology, along with other goods and technology. Earth joined the Alien Alliance as a full member nearly 100 years ago in 2358. All space ships built now carry the designation EAS [Earth Alliance Ship].

Other than the usual tensions between the Ixian and Leonin, everything in the Alliance is peaceful. Ixians want everything done yesterday and to move on, the Leonin want to take their time to learn everything before moving on. The Drakis manage to keep a middle ground and so far the humans have sided with the Drakis.

The Alien Races
The Leonin from the distant Korona Nebula. A cat featured bipedal species noted for their physical prowess and strength. They have been travelling through space for a long time, but they are a lazy race and tend to “borrow” technology from the races they meet along the way rather than develop it themselves.

The Ixian from the Arcuna galaxy. An avian race with beaks and wings, noted for their speed and reflexes. The Ixian as a race are younger than man, but are fast learners with a knack for technology that perhaps surpasses the Drakis.

The Drakis from the Hurrun galaxy, which neighbours the Jurian galaxy. A reptilian race with red or green skin tones. Their features are either draconic or lizard like depending on their caste. The Drakis are tougher than the other races due to thick armoured plates on their bodies. They are an old race with much to teach all the younger races, but bound by tradition and social constraints.

Recent history
Alliance star ships have recently come under attack from a predatory space faring race calling themselves the Skathis. The Alliance has no idea of where the Skathis come from as they appear to use some sort of Wormhole Warp technology. It appears to be no faster that FLT but it does allows the Skathis ships to get closer than normal FTL would allow. This advantage allows the Skathis to attack and steal cargo and take/kill the passengers and crew with frightening speed. To date there have been no survivors of a Skathis attack, the only information are sensor reports and sometimes a recorded message within the memory banks of intact Communication Systems aboard the dead ships: “This is the Scathis, prepare to be sacrificed upon the alter of Al-Geth, we honour you with the gift of death”

Game Information
The year is 2456 and the Alien Alliance has funded a Terraforming mission to MX428S8 [provisionally named Nasibu]. The Terraforming process normally takes 5 years to make a planet habitable. The nature of the work requires all crew are rotated off planet every 6 months, for 1 month R&R before joining the supply freighter [which services 3 other Terraforming operations] for several months before making landfall at the next planet being Terraformed.

Nasibu is unusual in that it isn’t a ball of rock with little or no atmosphere. There is a thriving ecosystem, but one that is poisonous to non-native life. In a brave endeavor the Alliance is using a Nanoforming process to engineer the ecosystem to a less hazardous atmosphere, manipulating the Flora and Fauna over successive generations with tailored Nanites to make Nasibu less inimical to humanoid life. In accordance with the Alliance Sentient Index Protocol, surveys and fact-finding missions to Nasibu have confirmed there are no Sentient Life-forms on the planet

Nasibu is oldworld Dinosaur County, sprawling forest, majestic mountain ranges, volcanic peaks surrounded by never-ending plains, freezing ice sheets, massive Herbivores chomping on tall pampas grass while being stalked by wily Carnivores, Egg Stealers, Tree Lizards and the near constant drone of billions of beating insect wings. And the best bit? If the fauna doesn’t get you the flora will!

All of the characters are crew of the Terraforming operation, whether professional Terraforming engineers or brave adventures who signed on for the chance to explore a distant alien world of danger and exotic beauty, or perhaps the alimony demands of your ex-partner forced you to sign a 5 year contract to get them off your back, maybe your running from the law [for a crime you did or didn’t do] or even hiding from other criminals. Whatever your reason for being on Nasibu is, it ends today. The Shuttle is coming, and with it the promise of rest, relaxation, beer, decent food and not having to wear those damned Filter Masks when you go to check the Atmosphere Processors, Nanite Plumes, Moisture Regulators and the never ending maintenance schedule of the Terraforming Engine.

just a couple of extra things

1..Mystic/Shaman are not available as PC's
2..The 3 Alien Races all need masks/makeup as a minimum physrep.
3..The Cradle of Prometheus game is set within the background used for Hannibal Falling, but involves new characters [sorry, but you cant play characters from Hannibal Falling]
4..You will need to provide your own Nerf guns/ammo and LARP safe weapons, we can provide some spare ammo but not loads.
5..Your characters will have enough ammo for 1 weapon plus 2 reloads [that 18 rounds if using a Maverick/Strongarm]. Characters with access to Big Guns will have ammo and reloads for them as well

think thats everything :)

Nicholas (Nick) a Human who is on this ‘adventure’ by accidently getting on the wrong shuttle, then deciding to stay because his fate guided him there. He is loath to do any real work, feigning ignorance of the task or blaming others for it not being done, when uninterested he is very lazy and takes any and all available shortcuts, however when interested will dive in with both hands and not cease till the task is completed(even if it’s not his task to do). He has an extremely short attention span and can be distracted by almost anything. He has been known to wander away part way through conversations, due to distraction or lack of interest in the subject.

So who ever is in charge youve been warned
"Manta erk ve nas denesepatu un ventu ketalf!"
Every day that the sun doth shine a soul will fall!

Chrome: 'Axel' Vetri Newton - Target practice for the npcs
Odyssey: Fenyang Qauhra third son of hecon, Guard of the red Gate. Member of the Queens guard.
