Outworlds Alliance - Risin squadron - Fighter customisations

Flyby,
I've completed the assessment of the new fighters, and have some ideas for optimisations before we depart. I'll have a parts list on your desk as soon as I've gotten approval from the pilots.

All assessments assume that normally, you can expect to engage w/ the weapons in the nose, and one wing.

Respectfully,

Scruff

Defender Wilhelm Marx (Barry Lace)

Fighter: Lightning
Weapon Heat Damage Range Location
Std Fit: AC/20 (10 shots) 7 20 9 Nose
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Nose
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Left Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Right Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Aft
13 Heatsinks -13

Heat (all weps) = 19 (6 overheat)
Heat (std weps) = 13 (0 overheat)

Assessment:
An effective weapons fit for short ranges only. All Clan Snow Raven weapons seen so far our-range our equivalents, and most of their fighters can out accelerate us, letting them control the range. Flyby found it very hard to bring his AC/20 to bear in most cirmstances.

Recommendattions:
Replace the AC/20 with something to give better range. Suggested alternatives are as follows:
1. Replace the AC/20 with an LRM20 and 3 tons ammo, and an extra medium laser. Although the LRM lacks the single massive punch it has 2.5 times the range of the AC, letting the pilot engage much more easily. Also, the 3-ton ammo bay would allow 18 salvos, increasing the fighter's endurance.

Weapon Heat Damage Range Location
LRM20 (18 shots) 6 12 21 Nose
Medium Laser x2 6 10 9 Nose
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Left Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Right Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Aft
13 Heatsinks -13

Heat (all weps) = 21 (8 overheat)
Heat (std weps) = 15 (2 overheat)

2. Replace the AC/20 with a PPC, an LRM10 with 1t ammo, and 3 heatsinks. Gives the range bonus of the LRM20 and the lack of ammo required for the PPC. This config has more heat issues than option 1, but has the solid punch of the PPC to off-set it. If parts are available, it may be possible to use 2x LRM5 instead of an LRM10. This would allow an extra heatsink to be fitted, and allow greater fine-tuning of the heat-loading.

Weapon Heat Damage Range Location
LRM10 (12 shots) 4 6 21 Nose
PPC 10 10 18 Nose
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Nose
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Left Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Right Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Aft
16 Heatsinks -16

Heat (all weps) = 26 (10 overheat)
Heat (std weps) = 20 (4 overheat)

Protector Bronwyn "Wrecker" Dihatsu

Fighter: SL-17 Shilone

Weapon Heat Damage Range Location
Std Fit: LRM20 (12 shots) 6 12 21 Nose
Large Laser 8 8 15 Nose
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Left Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Right Wing
SRM4 (25 shots) 3 2x3 9 Aft
20 Heatsinks -20

Heat (all weps) = 23 (3 overheat)
Heat (std weps) = 17 (-3 overheat)

Assessment:
A good all-ranges weapons load, possibly slightly over-cooled, and limited ammunition for the LRM rack.

Recommendations:
1. Give the LRM20 more ammuntion. This would require replacing the aft-mounted SRM4, probably with a medium laser.
Weapon Heat Damage Range Location
LRM20 (24 shots) 6 12 21 Nose
Large Laser 8 8 15 Nose
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Left Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Right Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Aft
20 Heatsinks -20

Heat (all weps) = 23 (3 overheat)
Heat (std weps) = 17 (-3 overheat)

2. Replacing the aft-mounted SRM with a Medium laser, upgrade the Large Laser to a PPC. This would not improve the ammo load, but would give a more capable energy weapon.
Weapon Heat Damage Range Location
LRM20 (12 shots) 6 12 21 Nose
PPC 10 10 18 Nose
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Left Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Right Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Aft
20 Heatsinks -20

Heat (all weps) = 25 (5 overheat)
Heat (std weps) = 19 (-1 overheat)

3. Similar to (1), this increases the LRM's ammo my a smaller amount, but adds an extra medium laser for close-rnage punch.
Weapon Heat Damage Range Location
LRM20 (18 shots) 6 12 21 Nose
Large Laser 8 8 15 Nose
Medium Laser 3 5 9 nose
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Left Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Right Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Aft
20 Heatsinks -20

Heat (all weps) = 26 (6 overheat)
Heat (std weps) = 20 (0 overheat)

Protector Johanna "Sla...erm, Scra...erm, JJ" Jaeger

Fighter: F-90 Stingray

Weapon Heat Damage Range Location
Std Fit: PPC 10 10 18 Nose
Large Laser 8 8 15 Left Wing
Large Laser 8 8 15 Right Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Left Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Right Wing
20 Heatsinks -20

Heat (all weps) = 32 (12 overheat)
Heat (std weps) = 21 (1 overheat)

Assessment:
The Stingray has a good all-round energy weapons package. It's main weaknesses are overheating on those rare occasions when both wing arcs can be employed, and the lack of a rear weapon to discourage attackers from trailing.

Recommendations:
None - with current parts, it's very hard to improve this fighter without losing it's current strengths.

Defender Kurt Wulfgrun

Fighter: Ironsides

Weapon Heat Damage Range Location
Std Fit: PPC 10 10 18 Nose
PPC 10 10 18 Nose
SRM6 (3 shots) 4 2x4 9 Nose
SRM6 (3 shots) 4 2x4 9 Left Wing
SRM6 (3 shots) 4 2x4 9 Left Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Left Wing
SRM6 (3 shots) 4 2x4 9 Right Wing

SRM6 (3 shots) 4 2x4 9 Right Wing
Medium Laser 3 5 9 Right Wing
10 Heatsinks -10

Heat (all weps) = 46 (36 overheat)
Heat (std weps) = 35 (25 overheat)

Assessment:
A Star-League era design, with massive firepower, minimal ammo and totally inadequate cooling systems. At some point the original double-efficiency cooling system has been replaced, moving the original overheat problems from severe to crippling.
This probably explains why this fighter has spent most of the last century, either stored in the back of the hangar or assigned to patrol systems where actual combat is extremely unlikely.

Recommendations:
Trade it in for a different medium fighter.

Assuming we can't trade it in, we need to address the heat and ammo problems. The overheating is probably more serious, so we'll start there.
First of all, I want to remove the two medium lasers from the wings. This model has always had problems with their cooling jackets, even back to the Star League days. After that, we either need to figure out a way of cooling the PPCs adequatley, or replace them. I'd like to keep them if we can, as they give a good solid long-tange punch. So, either we cut back on the SRM armament to free up more mass for heatsinks, or we consider replacing the SRMs with small LRM racks. Removing one SRM6 from each wing would, along with the lasers, free up enough mass to install 8 more heatsinks, while increasing the ammo supply to 5 salvos for each remaining launcher.

Weapon Heat Damage Range Location
Std Fit: PPC 10 10 18 Nose
PPC 10 10 18 Nose
SRM6 (5 shots) 4 2x4 9 Nose
SRM6 (5 shots) 4 2x4 9 Left Wing
SRM6 (5 shots) 4 2x4 9 Right Wing

18 Heatsinks -18

Heat (all weps) = 32 (14 overheat)
Heat (std weps) = 28 (10 overheat)

Or we could keep all 5 SRMs, but reduce them to 4-tube launchers:
Weapon Heat Damage Range Location
Std Fit: PPC 10 10 18 Nose
PPC 10 10 18 Nose
SRM4 (4 shots) 3 2x3 9 Nose
SRM4 (4 shots) 3 2x3 9 Left Wing
SRM4 (4 shots) 3 2x3 9 Left Wing
SRM4 (4 shots) 3 2x3 9 Right Wing

SRM4 (4 shots) 3 2x3 9 Right Wing

17 Heatsinks -17

Heat (all weps) = 35 (16 overheat)
Heat (std weps) = 29 (12 overheat)

What what? Bally Snow Ravens giving you trouble again, eh?

Damned shame I can't be out there with you and all the old boys, giving them what for with inferior weapon systems in underarmoured flying coffins.

Damned shame.
